Music & Lyrics: The Oregon Busboy
The Oregon busboy
Just kind of drifted into my life
And stayed
One mornin’ after breakfast
Across the way
from some small café
Along the coastal highway
Well when I sat down
He kind of glanced my way
and I looked back at him
Then when the check came . . .
(well you know just how these things go) . . .
I got up to pay the bill
But as I walked outside,
I heard a voice behind me say,
“Hey, wait up! Where you headed to?”
Then I looked around and I saw the busboy
Followin’ along
a few steps just behind me
And if there’s anything I can say
After all this time . . .
It’s that we hit the heights
When we got it on together
With the Oregon busboy in my life
It never really mattered
Whether
it was rain or shine
“Well I’m not really sure ,” I said
I took off work a week or two
To see the sights
And wander down the coast
He just looked down
Toe’d at the dirt
And said, “gee, it sounds like fun”
Think I could come
along
Just for the ride?
And if there’s anything I can say . . . rain or shine
“But what about your job,” I asked
“Oh that,” he said
And gave a great big grin
That seemed to go from ear to ear
“Give me a second
Let me go and get my jacket
Then I’ll be right back
And we can both
Get out of here!
And if there’s anything I can say . . . rain or shine
My friends would look at me and say,
“We just cant figure this thing out”
Or, “what’s come over you?”
I’d just look back and them and shrug
And say, “I guess this must be what
they mean by love
So what else could I do?”
And if there’s anything I can say . . . rain or shine
