R.K.O. Radio Chandelier The R.K.O. Radio Chandelier is better seen than described. Unlike many chandeliers, which are heavy, the RKO is by comparison: ethereal. It is constructed of brightly colored steel wire. The structure (of erector-set red squares) supports a violet platen in the center which supports a free-form swirl of argon tubing. The chandelier is ornamented with yellow bolts of energy. When I look at this piece, I'm reminded of a comment Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane) made about his song "Sketches of China," saying that "it was the strangest piece I ever wrote." That is the comment I would probably make on observing the R.K.O. Radio Chandelier. It's the strangest piece I ever designed. I'm not sure why I designed it - it's art - it baffles even me. I eventually understand most of my pieces after I reflect on them for awhile. But I still don't understand this one but I think it may have something to do with my boyhood. home • biography • about us • designs/products • neon work • art furniture / functional art • music • gallery • contact us • sitemap • faq Copyright © 2005-2007 Eric Helín Design.
