This table lamp is a unique little design that was inspired by a ranch's cattle brand - the "walking W." On the one hand, this disarmingly simple design is simply a free-standing lampshade; on the other, everything in the design defies convention. The proportions are deliberately asymmetrical, giving the design a dynamic feel. At the same time I've worked at maintaining the grotesque proportions that are characteristic of a cattle brand. In this case, I've translated the 2 dimensional symbol into a 3 dimensional design. I think it works admirably. In fact I've thought of doing a series of these. Like many of my pieces, they contain the macabre whimsy that is often typical of surrealism.
