Chinoisere This is one of a series of pedestals designed specifically with the idea of displaying objets d’art in mind. The concept of this pedestal is strongly oriental. The red top on which the glass shelf rests strongly resembles an oriental character. The foot of the pedestal mirrors the top except the individual pieces are not interlaced to form a character as on the top. The face of the pedestal shows wisps of blue smoke rising past its surface. Falling through the trompe l'oeil smoke as well as drifting upwards in its currents are "paper offerings" or confetti as sacrificed at a Chinese funeral. The red edge of each of these has sprung loose from its form and no longer defines each piece as a distinct entity, symbolizing its consumption in a flame. home • biography • about us • designs/products • neon work • art furniture / functional art • music • gallery • contact us • sitemap • faq Copyright © 2005-2007 Eric Helín Design.
