This was one of a series of functional art pedestals designed with the intention of displaying art. Most pedestals used to display art or other valuable objects fade into the background. However, these pedestals are like the proverbial child that should be "seen and not heard." Instead these pieces call attention to themselves in a number of ways. They are unusual, heavily ornamented, and brilliantly colored.

    Since they are objets d’art in a capricious turn-around they can easily eclipse the art which they display. In this case the utilitarian object becomes more important than the use to which it is put. This is completely in keeping with my style and a celebration of it.
