It isn’t at the beginning of a bridge, but rather in the center of the bridge . . .

– when you are halfway there
– when both ends recede into the distance
– when both ends are constricted and equidistant and you are centered in space

. . . that the moment of crisis occurs. A decision must be made to continue or to go back. At that moment, a jag in time (to the right or the left) seemingly occurs. The moment of decision arrives – to continue forward - towards the original goal - or change the mind and return to the beginning. Span is about that moment of crisis and that decision rather than the journey.
